DocScanFx v3.3.x.x Instructions:

     Starting in version 3.3.x.x DocScanFx will attempt to auto-discover any connected TWAIN scanners when the application goes to the image acquisition screen for the first time after a new install.  The setting below in the INI file defaults to 'Once' for new installs.  (Don't know what the INI file is?  Be sure to read this article - it's where all the cool application tweaks are at.)  After the discovery process has been performed the 'Once' setting changes to 'False'.  Note this setting is either MODE specific or in the COMMON section.

     ScannerAutoDetect=True/False/Once

In addition, there are Scan button context menu items for changing the common scanner settings:

You can restrict any of these context menus by changing the comma delimited list of choices shown below.  If this setting does not exist, all choices are available to the user.

    ScannerButtonContextOptions=Scan, Paper, Page, Deskew, Detect, Edit

DocScanFx v3.2.x.x Instructions:

DocScanFx requires you to setup your TWAIN or WIA compatible scanner before you can use DocScanFx to scan images..  Follow the steps below to configure your scanner.

  1. NAPS2 is the scanning component used in DocScanFx.  You must access NAPS2's setup screen in order to add a scanner profile.  To access this either:
    • Browse to your DocScanFx install folder.  Open the Resources\NAPS2 folders.  Run the "NAPS2.Portable.exe" file.
    • Or, if you've configured a functioning "Mode" in DocScanFx, run DocScanFx, select a mode, perform a query, choose an exam to scan images into, and right click the "Scan" button.  Finally, click the "Scanner Setup" option.
  2. Click the "Profiles" button, then click the "New" button.
  3. Select "TWAIN", then click the "Choose Device" button.
  4. A list of your computer's available TWAIN scanners will be shown.
  5. Choose the correct scanner then click the "Select" button, then "OK", then "Done" and close the NAPS2 program.
  6. That's it!

Notes:

  • If you have a WIA scanner choose that option during the profile setup.
  • If you get errors that the profile can't be saved or NAPS2 locks up trying to save the profile then there most likely is a problem with your file permissions.  See the file permissions page for information on fixing this.
  • You can setup more than one scanner profile, or setup a scanner more than once if you have some advanced scanner settings you want to set in the profile.  Take note of the names of the scanner profiles in NAPS2.  Then in your DocScanFx mode you can use the NAPS2UseProfile INI option to choose which scanner profile should be used for that mode.  For example: NAPS2UseProfile=TWAIN Scanner
